The Tesla Model S is a stylish EV that has been doing the rounds for some years now. Packed full of luxurious features and impressive technology, the appeal of Tesla's Model S is easy to see – especially in updated trims which pack more power, more tech, and more range than ever before. Instead of a traditional review of the model, we delve deeper by discovering the most important numbers of the EV, ranging from the Tesla Model S 0 – 60, through to the cargo capacity and details on its price for 2024.

This article focuses solely on the 2024 Tesla Model S All-Wheel Drive, and not the Plaid, as that will be covered separately. All facts and figures have been sourced from Tesla directly, unless specified elsewhere.

3.1: A Family Sedan With A Need For Speed

Everyone knows that electric cars are no slouches when it comes to acceleration. Unlike a gas or diesel engine, an electric motor can deliver all of its oomph in a split second, with no need to spool up turbos, or power through a rev range.

Even knowing that, though, the Tesla Model S 0 – 60 mph time is still bound to impress, both the first time you learn it, and the first time you experience it. That's because this sedan needs just 3.1 seconds to reach 60 mph and, just to be clear, that's for the 'entry-level' trim, and not the performance-orientated Plaid (which is Tesla's fastest ever production car across a quarter-mile distance). That's almost a full second faster than a brand-new Mustang GT, and 0.2 of a second faster than the twin-turbocharged, V8-powered Ferrari Roma.

The Model S first debuted for the 2017 model year, and the fastest variant then was the 100d. Despite not launching a truly new generation, the Model S has been upgraded substantially over the years, as can be demonstrated by the acceleration times. The old Tesla Model S 100d had a 0 – 60 mph time of 4.2 seconds, so just over a second slower than the current model, dubbed the Model S All-Wheel Drive.

402: Leave Your Range Anxiety At Home

For some, range anxiety is still very much a concern, and a limitation when it comes to transitioning from gas to electric cars. Tesla is fighting hard to combat these fears by constantly improving tech, both within the cars and within the larger charging network.

If you are someone that covers long distances, though, and don't want to live with range anxiety every day, then the Model S is most likely the best Tesla on the market right now. Compare the EPA-rated ranges of three of Tesla's core range, and it's easy to see that this is the case. The entry-level Model 3, in Long Range All-Wheel Drive trim, is capable of providing 341 miles of range. That's noticeably better than the more expensive, but heavier, Model Y of the same trim level, which offers just 308 miles of range.

However, make the jump up to the Model S, which is currently only available in the All-Wheel Drive trim (other than the Plaid), and you'll be rewarded with a comforting 402 miles of range. Really, that's second only to some Lucid Air trims, which is an impressive feat, considering the Lucid is a much newer model.

Why Tesla Hasn't Built A Second-Generation Model S

The Model S has undergone countless changes since its debut. Is a new generation really necessary?

74,990: Priced To Impress

No-one is here to argue that $74,990 is cheap. It isn't cheap for anything. However, not being cheap doesn't make something expensive, and it certainly does not make something poor value for money. This is the case for the 2024 Tesla Model S.

Quality comes at a price, so does performance, and so does technology. The Model S provides all of this, and for cheaper than much of the competition, too. For example, the cheapest 2025 Porsche Taycan costs just under $100k. The Porsche badge definitely carries some clout, but the base model is nowhere near as quick as the Model S.

Tesla also beat off the competition by not charging additional 'dealership fees' and 'market corrections' to their cars, which means if the website says the Model S is available for $74,990, then it's available for $74,990 (of course, delivery and legal fees still apply). There is no haggling to be done either; it's a simplified price, and possibly a more enjoyable buying experience, with the stress of 'securing a deal' stripped away from both buyer and seller.

25: More Spacious Than The Competition

In order to perform well as a fully functional family car, the Model S needs to do more than just come with five seats; it has to genuinely be practical, too. Thankfully, with clever design, the Model S manages to really prioritize cargo capacity without eating into cabin space either.

The Model S boasts 25 cubic feet of cargo capacity behind the second row. This is more than enough to swallow up a full week's worth of shopping, kids' strollers, and just about most things you might need to throw into the back of a proper family car. By contrast, the Lucid Air provides 22.1 cubic feet of rear trunk space, and the Taycan just 14.3 cubic feet.

Besides its rear trunk, the Model S also has a frunk that can accommodate 3.1 cubic feet of cargo.

Three: The Model S Keeps You Connected

Even the cheapest new cars in 2024 come equipped as standard with a touchscreen infotainment system upfront. It's also been a fair few years since the large tablet-style screen of Tesla's design first debuted, and it's safe to say that the shock factor has worn off now. So, how is Tesla managing to impress with its tech in 2024?

Tesla does so by incorporating no fewer than three screens inside the Model S, and here's how. First up, the main screen is a 17-inch unit, which has a tilt function for improved usability and glare reduction. From here, occupants can access a variety of media, navigation, and communication apps. Next up is the driver's digital display, which shows vehicle information, such as range and any warning signals, in addition to a real-time visualization of the road ahead.

More unique, though, is the eight-inch screen for rear passengers. From here, occupants can access gaming and entertainment apps, such as the Tesla Arcade, and even Netflix. Perfect for keeping kids entertained on long drives.

It went through 13 motor swaps and three battery packs.

15: Back On The Road In A Flash

For many, the most time- and cost-effective way of charging a Tesla is by using a wall charger at home, preferably overnight, as that's when electricity rates are usually at their lowest. For when that's not possible, charging on the go needs to be as efficient as possible, as spending hours waiting for the battery to charge up is just not practical.

This is why Tesla has been investing millions in its Supercharger network, which is the fastest way to charge the Tesla Model S, or any Tesla, for that matter. An impressive 200 miles of range can be added in just 15 minutes, which is barely enough time to stop for a quick drink and check your emails.

Four: Peace Of Mind

When dropping a minimum of $74,990 on a Tesla Model S, the last thing you want is to worry about quality and reliability issues. However, Tesla has been in and out of the press for such issues in the past, and J.D. Power awards a distinctly average score of 73 out of 100 in matters relating to quality and reliability.

In an effort to boost confidence in buyers though, Tesla offers a four-year / 50,000-mile warranty on the 2024 Model S. This is equal to what's offered on the Lucid Air models, but a year longer than what Porsche Taycan owners will receive. The battery and drive unit on Tesla's Model S is covered for eight years or 150,000 miles, whichever comes first.

670: Not As Sensible As You Might First Think

To recap, the Model S boasts seating for five, enough cargo space for a comfortable trip away, an excellent amount of range on tap, and enough gadgets and gizmos inside to keep everyone happy. It really does shape up to be a perfectly sensible choice for the modern family.

However, it does have another trick up its sleeve – 670 horsepower. That's enough to shame any number of high-performance and driver-focused cars, and while the Model S doesn't make any attempts to market itself as a sports car, it's sure powerful enough to bring a smile to any gearhead's face. The impressive amount of power comes courtesy of a dual-motor setup, and those horses are distributed out to all four wheels.
