WHITE LIES: IT TURNS OUT THE NEW BMW M4 CS IS EVEN FASTER THAN ADVERTISED

For a while now, BMW and other German automakers have been somewhat conservative when disclosing the performance specs of their cars. The decision to take this approach could be due to several factors, such as accounting for different driving conditions, surfaces, and elevation, among others.

The result is that, when someone buys a brand-new BMW M model — a badge that's becoming ever increasingly unapologetic about its performance bias — they will be pleasantly surprised if they decide to put those factory performance numbers to the test. That is because, quite often, they'll see better times than those claimed officially on their runs. That is certainly the case for the new BMW M4 CS.

2025 BMW M4 CS is Sharper, Lighter, and More Powerful Than Ever

With a 20 horsepower increase, CS-specific chassis enhancements, and a 0-60 mph time of 3.2 seconds, BMW's $123,500 M4 CS coupe gains a hefty update.

From Zero To Hero In 3.4 Seconds

Actually, 3.19 Seconds

BMW claims the limited-run BMW M4 CS goes from 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) in 3.4 seconds when, in reality, we've now seen it do that in 3.19 seconds, according to a video by AutoTopNL. This AWD monster is powered by a butter-smooth 3.0-liter inline-six engine that's twin-turbocharged and makes 543 horsepower and 479 pound-feet of torque.

What's more interesting, on BMW's U.S. website, the 3.4-second figure is the claimed time for an even shorter (and quicker) 0-60 mph sprint. Owners will be pleasantly surprised indeed when they see a 0-60 mph time flirting with the high two-second range.

A Ten-Second Car From The Factory

As seen in the video, the 2025 BMW M4 CS is capable of a quarter-mile time of 10.95 seconds, aided in no small part by its strong launch, courtesy of BMW's M xDrive all-wheel-drive system and ZF's eight-speed automatic transmission. The intelligent xDrive system makes use of a multi-plate clutch that's electronically controlled and distributes the drive torque seamlessly between the front and rear wheels, maximizing traction in different scenarios, including when launching hard. The system has a rear-wheel bias, so BMW purists need not fret.

Considering its real performance is better than what's claimed by BMW, we can't help but wonder if the engine itself is even more power-dense than 543 horsepower per 3.0 liters, effectively translating to 181 horsepower per liter. This is something we can only see once a dyno run becomes available. In any case, we expect the result would not surprise many people who are already aware of BMW's conservative performance claims.
